The STOP
Campaign has come into being to fight the erection of SIX GIANT,
INDUSTRIAL, WIND TURBINES on the Ellerside / Stribers Ridge
line. With a height of 125 Mtrs (410 Ft) to blade tips they
will overlook and dominate the beautiful medieval Village of
Cartmel and surrounding Valley to the east, and the stunning
Greenodd Sands and Village and panorama of the Lakeland Fells
to the west.
This STOP website is intended
to support the local communities affected and inform all interested
parties who share our concern of the impact that these turbines
will have, not just on a special local landscape but also on
the environment and livelihoods of the entire area. We do want
to ensure that the information that we present on this STOP
site is accurate. We will use wherever possible Government statistics
and quote all our sources. We don’t pretend to be anything other
than partisan about this issue. We are not interested in compromise,
meaning smaller or fewer Turbines. We intend that the Cartmel
Peninsula avoids the fate of its adjoining neighbour the Furness
Peninsula where the proliferation of turbines continues apace
with both new farms and the replacement of current turbines
with the new generation of larger versions. (see MAPS
& Cumbria under Siege).
These proposed turbines are a straightforward case of financial
gain for the Developers, Energia in Natura and for the landowners.
Many of us are in business and we understand profit. However,
for those of us living close by, they will damage our landscape,
our lives and the value of our homes. They will affect our village,
one of the most historic, charming and prosperous in South Lakeland.
In short, they will damage our local community whilst providing
no effective contribution towards our country’s energy needs.
We encourage you to join our
mailing list so that we can keep you better informed with regular
email bulletins and breaking news as it happens. Don't worry
we will not share your name or email address with anyone and
we absolutely will not send you any junk mail.

*"The picture above is not an illustration or an
artist’s impression. It is a photomontage produced in
accordance with Scottish Natural Heritage’s Good Practice
Guidance which is recognised best practice, and represents

Appreciate the Scale of what is being proposed
These photos give you just some idea as to
the scale of construction in erecting the new
generation of wind turbines. The turbine masts
illustrated are smaller than those
proposed for Ellerside and Stribers.
The picture of the hill top Cefn Croes development gives
an indication as to the what will happen to the
ridge line!

The 800 year old Priory is the most prominent building
in the Cartmel area. Its main tower is
110 feet high (33.5 mtrs). The proposed turbines are nearly
FOUR TIMES higher. (See logo above which is to scale)
Public Meeting held in
Village Hall 4th Aug

Locals packed the Village Hall in Cartmel and listened
intently to the proposals and the opposition plans.
